Unapologetically "Woke"

"Woke" is one of the latest buzzwords the right-wing uses to discredit any person or position they disagree with.  It's very hard to take anybody seriously when they use the word in such ways.  If they have a valid rebuttal, then why not provide it instead of resorting to silly, shallow buzzwords. As if that's not enough, this word even got into public policy with Florida's "Stop Woke Act" that is being challenged in court.  This isn't surprising that Florida of all places enacts a policy with such a name considering that their Gov. Ron DeSantis uses this word repeatedly like a broken record, which is getting really old.  This word is being widely used as a pejorative against people who challenge right-wing positions and policies. I looked up the word "woke" and it means somebody who is socially and politically conscious.  In this sense, I'm unapologetically woke. I respect that people have different political views and support their r

Yummy Pineapple and Strawberry Smoothie

If you read my profile, you may remember that I like making smoothies.  I'm outside in my favorite spot (hammock in my backyard) enjoying a delicious strawberry and pineapple smoothie. A while back, I found a recipe for a  piƱa colada type smoothie without alcohol.  I love the combination of pineapple and coconut, so I made this and it was delicious.  Specifically, the smoothie recipe includes pineapples, coconut milk, coconut water, and half a banana.   That was my favorite type of smoothie and then when I was out, it was a hot day and I was getting thirsty so I stopped for a smoothie at a local place that specializes in smoothies and acai bowls. They make a smoothie that's similar to the one described in the previous paragraphs but also include strawberries, so I tried this one and it was the best I've had.  Thus, I started adding strawberries into my non-alcohol  piƱa colada smoothies.  With the pineapples and strawberries, it's sweet enough with the pineapples and

"Let Food Be Thy Medicine"- Hypocrites

The quote is the subject line from the ancient Greek doctor Hypocrites (who is also nick-named "the father of modern medicine")  inspires me as much as any quote does.  In this blog entry, I'll delve into my interpretation of this quote and the deeper meaning of it.   To me, this quote refers to both preventative and reversal health.  Preventative means reducing the chances of an illness or health problem before it happens, such diet exercise, and lifestyle.  This can include everything from diabetes and heart disease to the common cold.  The older I get, the more I focus on preventative health.  Though I've been a vegan for years, I've been moving more and more toward a diet that's mostly plant-based whole foods- such as fruits, veggies, nuts, seeds, herbs, and legumes.  The results are excellent thus far.  there's also much research to back up the relation between plant-based foods loaded with nutrients such as antioxidants and health.   I haven't g

Feature Dancing vs. Being a Regular Dancer at Strip Clubs

Though this might not be so common anymore, back in the day many major porn stars toured strip clubs as feature dancers-  performing there for a limited amount of time.  There are also the regular dancers at the club (called house dancers with the club being the "house").  I was the latter.  Though I did porn, I didn't get my dancing gigs through porn.  In fact, I started dancing years before I did porn. Working at strip clubs, I learned we house dancers had to actually pay to go into work.  We had to pay the club a certain house fee each shift and also as a courtesy, tip support staff such as veejays.  We didn't usually have a base salary in the U.S. except in places where this was required.  For example, in Washington, D.C. the clubs paid a waitress salary to dancers of $2.15 at the time and then we earned tips on top of that.  On the other hand, feature dancers get paid to dance at the club and don't have to pay the fees that house dancers do. They can still e

Worst Questions to Ask Sex Workers: Question 1- "Would You Want Your Daughter Being a...."

This is the first blog entry in a series of bad questions to ask sex workers.  I was going to list these all in one entry, but then noticed my commentary on the first question was long enough for an entire blog entry.  Thus, I'll do each question as a separate entry with the first question in this one.   Unfortunately, these questions are all too often asked in interviews.  This is one reasons I prefer not to do interviews and just post here where I can speak in my own voice instead of being pressured to conform to the narrative somebody else is trying to portray of sex workers.  However, I have appreciated being interviewed by sex workers and people with a nuanced and respectful perspective of sex workers beyond just the stereotypes and cliches. These interviews mainly focused on advocacy issues and sex workers' human rights.   Such "questions" to be critiqued here are more often statements worded as questions rather than actual questions, and lead the sex worker to

Porn "Casting Couch" and Health Risks

In the U.S., porn centered around a community of performers within what's been called the circle. That is, performers who voluntarily agree to be tested for STDs/STIs such as HIV regularly.  At the time I worked, this was every 30 days and is now every 14 days.  They agree to refrain from risky sex acts  outside of work so they don't put their fellow performers at risk.  This doesn't guarantee safety because there is no such guarantee, but is a precaution. When people who've been with folks from outside of the circle enter the porn industry such as escorts or other types of sex workers, some performers expressed concerns.  I cannot speak for everybody, but to me a bigger health and safety concern was the "casting couch" from within the industry.   The circle was based largely on an honor system, in which performers voluntarily agreed to abstain from certain risky behaviors.  Even if performers were abiding by the agreement, they may still be with people from o

Porn Tube Sites and their Effects on the Biz

When I did porn videos between 2002 and 2004, they were produced on DVDs and eventually went out of production.  Oh how times have changed!  Now, there are more porn tube sites than I know of, kind of like the YouTube of porn where people can watch masses of videos for free.  This has been compared to Napster in the music industry. For obvious reasons, there has been much criticism against these tube sites from within the porn industry. One reason is because people can access entire scenes or entire videos for free, which affects producers and performers.  Back in the day, porn producers could make money for each video sold or online in pay-per-view sites (in which some are still around).  Thus, the widespread availability of free porn can adversely affect their "bottom line"  and we also need to consider the expenses that go into producing videos.  This can in turn minimize the amount of porn they produce, which may affect the income of performers- even though we don't

Sex Work, $$$$$, Race, and Gender

As a sex worker, I've been asked many questions.  One is how much money I make. You may have also noticed sex workers are sometimes asked this in interviews.  Being a private person, I don't say how much money I make other than that it varies.  However, I will speak more generally. (As I said in a previous post, I'm not currently seeing clients in person and am just camming).   Like with other forms of sex work, porn performers don't typically have a base salary (except the small percentage of performers who are under contract).  Instead, we're usually paid per scene.   Thus, the more work we get, the more income we can make.  If we go through a "dry spell" where we're getting little to no work, then less income.  This is the same as for other forms of sex work I've done.  When I was working in the legal Nevada brothels, I only got paid when I booked a client based on a rate the client and I agreed upon (though some brothels have house minimums we

Wicca-licious!

Spiritually and religiously, I consider myself eclectic.  That is, I don't strictly adhere to just one religion and integrate elements of various spiritual paths.  Yet, one I am especially drawn to is Wicca.   Wicca is a nature-based spiritual path.  I remember reading years ago that we may be Wiccan if we're in awe of a raindrop and was thinking, "Yes, that's me!"  Wiccans believe that the divine (or whichever other term they may use) is in nature, rather than a separate being above and beyond all of us.  The divine is among us, in the trees, grass, dirt, water, sky, mountains, leaves and so many more elements of nature.   In fact, I'm outside on my hammock now writing this blog entry.  Two large trees hold up the hammock.  This is my favorite place to be and I often spend hours out here, or sometimes elsewhere in nature.  While some people may find this boring and get restless, I love it.  Wicca also appeals to me because it's non-dogmatic and doesn'

Body Positivity, Body Shaming, Porn, and Camming

If you read my blog entry on how I got into porn, you may remember me hinting about writing an entry on body positivity and body shaming in the industry.  Drum roll please because here it is.  Though this is a serious issue, I will also use humor so feel welcome to laugh (as long as you're laughing with me and not at me lol). When I started camming in 2002, I was kind of heavy by modeling standards and still am curvy and thick.  While I received many positive comments, one thing I remember was how multiple people came into my chatroom to tell me I'm fat or my tits sag (as if I didn't already know that and needed these b******** to enlighten me?  LMAO.)  Though I realize we show our bodies for a living, such behavior is really unnecessary.  If somebody's not your type, then you can leave their chatroom.  No need to be rude or disrespectful.  But then again, some people get off on degradation so maybe they really were into me and jacking off while they said that.   On a
