Feature Dancing vs. Being a Regular Dancer at Strip Clubs

Though this might not be so common anymore, back in the day many major porn stars toured strip clubs as feature dancers-  performing there for a limited amount of time.  There are also the regular dancers at the club (called house dancers with the club being the "house").  I was the latter.  Though I did porn, I didn't get my dancing gigs through porn.  In fact, I started dancing years before I did porn. Working at strip clubs, I learned we house dancers had to actually pay to go into work.  We had to pay the club a certain house fee each shift and also as a courtesy, tip support staff such as veejays.  We didn't usually have a base salary in the U.S. except in places where this was required.  For example, in Washington, D.C. the clubs paid a waitress salary to dancers of $2.15 at the time and then we earned tips on top of that.  On the other hand, feature dancers get paid to dance at the club and don't have to pay the fees that house d...

Worst Questions to Ask Sex Workers: Question 1- "Would You Want Your Daughter Being a...."

This is the first blog entry in a series of bad questions to ask sex workers.  I was going to list these all in one entry, but then noticed my commentary on the first question was long enough for an entire blog entry.  Thus, I'll do each question as a separate entry with the first question in this one.   Unfortunately, these questions are all too often asked in interviews.  This is one reasons I prefer not to do interviews and just post here where I can speak in my own voice instead of being pressured to conform to the narrative somebody else is trying to portray of sex workers.  However, I have appreciated being interviewed by sex workers and people with a nuanced and respectful perspective of sex workers beyond just the stereotypes and cliches. These interviews mainly focused on advocacy issues and sex workers' human rights.   Such "questions" to be critiqued here are more often statements worded as questions rather than actual questions, and le...

Sex Work, $$$$$, Race, and Gender

As a sex worker, I've been asked many questions.  One is how much money I make. You may have also noticed sex workers are sometimes asked this in interviews.  Being a private person, I don't say how much money I make other than that it varies.  However, I will speak more generally. (As I said in a previous post, I'm not currently seeing clients in person and am just camming).   Like with other forms of sex work, porn performers don't typically have a base salary (except the small percentage of performers who are under contract).  Instead, we're usually paid per scene.   Thus, the more work we get, the more income we can make.  If we go through a "dry spell" where we're getting little to no work, then less income.  This is the same as for other forms of sex work I've done.  When I was working in the legal Nevada brothels, I only got paid when I booked a client based on a rate the client and I agreed upon (though some brothels h...

Body Positivity, Body Shaming, Porn, and Camming

If you read my blog entry on how I got into porn, you may remember me hinting about writing an entry on body positivity and body shaming in the industry.  Drum roll please because here it is.  Though this is a serious issue, I will also use humor so feel welcome to laugh (as long as you're laughing with me and not at me lol). When I started camming in 2002, I was kind of heavy by modeling standards and still am curvy and thick.  While I received many positive comments, one thing I remember was how multiple people came into my chatroom to tell me I'm fat or my tits sag (as if I didn't already know that and needed these b******** to enlighten me?  LMAO.)  Though I realize we show our bodies for a living, such behavior is really unnecessary.  If somebody's not your type, then you can leave their chatroom.  No need to be rude or disrespectful.  But then again, some people get off on degradation so maybe they really were into me and jacking off w...

How I Got Into Porn

So, I've been asked how I got into porn.  Did some porn videos between 2002 to 2004.  I was actually camming and various people came into my chatroom and asked if I did porn.  Also been told multiple times that I resemble Christy Canyon.  At first, I didn't know who she was so I looked her up.   Basically, I became curious to try porn out so I did.  I called around to some production companies and got started that way.  I spent some time out in the San Fernando Valley (a.k,a, Porn Valley) and have been reflecting on this time in my life much over the past few months.  Most of my videos are still online, which is kind of funny to think about.   Though I feel weird naming people I worked with, I may blog about some of the more memorable experiences- including body shaming and body positivity in porn.

Starting a Blog (Again)

Hi! I did a blog years ago and not sure if it's still up.  Really missed blogging, so I decided to start another.  Writing is my best mode of communication and I'm a very deep thinker.  (Sometimes, I may overthink.)  Writing provides an outlet.  Looking forward to blogging on topics I'm passionate about, such as veganism, nature, gardening, body positivity, camming, and much more.

About Tessa (a.k.a. the Vegan Vixen)

Hi! Some people asked to learn more about me, so here it is.  I've become a vegan and hippy-type. Really enjoy gardening, nature walks, hiking, making smoothies, and being outside.   Also, I'm a very introverted and private person who rejoices in solitude. I did porn videos from 2002 to 2004. Afterwards, I continued doing live webcam. I enjoy this because I can work my own schedule, work from home, get on cam when I'm in the mood, and this was an interactive, personalized experience where I can communicate with viewers.  Currently, I do cam shows on StripChat and Xhamster.
