Beware! Scams Against Cam Models

When somebody writes something better than I can, I yield to them and share their link.  Such is the case with an entry by cam model Jaye Lovely about camming and scamming in the "Diary of a Harlot" blog https://medium.com/@diaryofaharlot/cammers-scammers-3-common-scams-to-beware-13fd36bdbd66

In this entry, Jaye explained 3 types of scams against cam models:  1) Dine and Dasher, 2) Daddy Sorebucks, and 3) Nagging Nathan.

1) The Dine and Dasher refers to a customer who tells a cam model they'll pay afterwards with no intent to pay.  Basically, trying to trick the cam model into giving them a free show or doing something they demand or request for free.  In addition to what Jaye wrote, another sign of a Dine and Dasher is somebody who says something like "show your t*ts for 5 seconds and I'll buy a 30 minute private show."

2) Daddy Sorebucks refers to a customer who buys a show, gets the show, and then charges back.  Jaye explained this is mainly about power.  Some may argue customers could charge back for other reasons, such as dissatisfaction with the show, the model not performing as advertised or doing what they said they would do, technical glitches in the system (which aren't the models fault), and so on.  However, Jaye may be referring just to customers who chargeback to get a free show.

The only time I experienced supposed chargebacks was working for a studio years ago.  It seemed like my paychecks were short, so when I asked about this, management showed me a binder of customers who got shows in this small cam site.  They said the customers whose screennames were highlighted charged back, which was most of the customers.  I recognized some of these names as repeat customers, which seemed odd.  This company never mentioned any complaints to me about customer dissatisfaction with my shows and why would they do multiple shows with me overtime if they were so dissatisfied.  To be fair, I realize there can be other reasons for chargeback such as if somebody uses somebody else's card without their knowledge.

Yet, this still didn't seem to make sense.  Why would the site not block them and continue to allow them to get shows if they keep charging back- especially with the same model.  Some of the highlighted customers returned to my chatroom after I was informed about this and when I brought up the chargebacks to them, they acted like they had no clue what I was talking about.  In retrospect, I don't think the customers were acting and there could had been other reasons their screennames were highlighted in the binder besides chargebacks.

3) Negative Nathans refer to customers who try to manipulate us to lower our rates for private shows.  They may complain that our rates are too high and tell us we can get more business or longer shows by lowering the rates, or they may compliment us and sometimes tip small amounts.  I experienced multiple times when customers asked or told me to lower my rate to the lowest amount allowed for private shows in the site I'm currently on and respond in 2 words "no sweetie."  Then, some of these customers bought shows at my rate.   Not sure if I'd call this a scam, but it is annoying to be pressured to do this and I ban people from my chatroom if they keep persisting.

There are so many types of scams, it's understandable she didn't get to them all.  Another type of scam viewers tried on me multiple times in my earlier camming days though never anymore is the birthday sceme. They came into my chatroom and said it was their birthday.  I responded by saying "Happy Birthday," but of course that wasn't enough.  They told me to show this or that or do this or that as a "gift."  First, I had no way of knowing whether it was actually their birthday.  Secondly, even if it is, that doesn't make it okay to treat us like we're obligated to give them freebees.  On my birthday, I don't tell people to do their jobs for free.

That said, it's important for ethics to go both ways and for cam models to be honest about what we do and don't do and not scam customers.  Such behavior is detrimental not only to the customers, but also to the model doing it and all of us.  Will write about this more in a blog entry on ethics in cam modeling.
